I've trained karate for 14 years, so naturally, I was one of those kids who grew up with Karate Kid. When Cobra Kai came out, I was very excited to see how the iconic characters would tackle today's social climate.
...And Cobra Kai turned out to be a fun comedy with undertones of real problems. The two main characters (the Senseis!) did not only swap social status in Cobra Kai, but the term "hero and anti-hero" became so intertwined that we no longer know who's the better character... Throughout the whole series, the Daniel-Johnny feud looms large, so for my artwork, I picked up inspiration from Sensei Johnny's drinking habit (he drinks the same beer brand for breakfast, lunch and dinner!). If Sensei Johnny is "Coors", then Sensei Daniel is an eco. certified "fizzy mandarine" soft drink from Okinawa. His soft drink depicts a bonsai tree hugging the warm sun; the same icon used in the Miyagi-Do logotype. His drink would, most certainly, be served at Larusso Auto Group as refreshment.
